Ham, Jam, and the Heart of Wyoming

Our tiny town of Hulett (population 361 on a good day) might be easy to miss on the map. You’ve probably passed through on your way to Devils Tower or the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. But every August, Hulett becomes a shining example of Wyoming entrepreneurship, innovation, and grit.
It’s called Ham and Jam. And if you haven’t been… You’re missing out on more than smoked pork and motorcycles. You’re missing a masterclass in small-town economics and the power of a local business community firing on all cylinders.
Over 25,000 motorcyclists pit-stop in Hulett on their way to Sturgis for this spirited event. Pop-up vendors turn sidewalks into marketplaces. Shops open early and stay late. Locals greet visitors like longtime friends. And just like that, one single day delivers an economic boost that ripples far beyond the weekend.
The Takeaway: Here in Wyoming, it’s easy for outsiders to overlook what we’re building. They picture horses, not high-growth potential. But we know better. We don’t need skyscrapers or stock exchanges to do big things, we’ve got entrepreneurs with bold ideas, towns that rally behind them, and a statewide culture of resilience. Hulett is proof thriving businesses don’t only live in big cities, but live in communities that support one another.
So here’s to Hulett. Here’s to hustle. And here’s to Wyoming, where we’ll keep riding out the storms (pun intended).
