In the wake of growing concerns over fraud and foreign influence, Wyoming is gearing up for a series of legislative actions that could significantly impact the state’s business landscape. While your Wyoming Chamber of Commerce is firmly against overburdening businesses with excessive regulations and requirements, it supports measures that protect critical infrastructure and prevent foreign adversaries from exploiting the state's business-friendly environment.

This spring, the Legislature’s Joint Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee formed a working group to address these concerns, resulting in four proposed bills. One such measure aims to hold third-party filers, like registered agents, accountable for their role in business registration. Another focuses on enabling local assessors to access confidential records from registered agents in cases of suspected fraud. And perhaps most crucially, House Bill 69 seeks to dissolve entities owned or controlled by foreign adversaries, such as those linked to North Korea, ensuring that Wyoming’s businesses are shielded from foreign influence.

For businesses in Wyoming, these legislative actions could have both positive and negative implications. On one hand, stricter regulations may increase compliance costs and paperwork, potentially hurting current and deterring new business registrations. On the other hand, the proposed changes will help preserve the integrity of Wyoming’s business ecosystem, fostering a safer environment for legitimate businesses to thrive. Your Wyoming Chamber of Commerce remains committed to balancing security with economic growth, advocating for regulations that protect critical infrastructure without stifling the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the state’s business community.

As these bills move through the legislative process, the Chamber will continue to engage with lawmakers, ensuring that Wyoming’s business-friendly reputation is maintained while addressing legitimate security concerns.
