Governor Gordon and the Wyoming Energy Authority (WEA) announced the approval of three major projects funded through the Energy Matching Funds (EMF) program, demonstrating Wyoming’s unwavering commitment to energy innovation, economic strength, and responsible resource development.
The projects include:
$4 million grant to Basin Electric Power Cooperative for a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study to evaluate a potential second unit at the Dry Fork Station in Gillette, signaling the first possible expansion of a coal-fired power plant in the U.S. in decades.
$343,005 to Contango Resources for a Big Horn Basin COâ‚‚ Pipeline Feasibility Study, aimed at advancing carbon capture and enhanced oil recovery that could unlock up to 4 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
$5.5 million to the University of Wyoming’s School of Energy Resources to expand the Integrated Test Center (ITC) near Gillette, solidifying Wyoming’s role as a national hub for carbon management research and technology development.
Also under review is a $100 million TRISO Fuel Fabrication Facility proposed by BWX Technologies, Inc., with a 45-day public comment period open through November 25, 2025. This potential project could position Wyoming at the forefront of advanced nuclear fuel production, driving energy diversification, private investment, and high-quality job creation across the state.
