Swipe Left on Theft
Protecting Wyoming's Main Streets and Securing Our State's Commerce
Retail crime is no longer just a big-city problem. Wyoming’s small businesses are under siege by organized theft rings, repeat offenders, and escalating property crimes that threaten the heart of our local economy, our Main Streets. And we’ve had enough.

Your Wyoming Chambers of Commerce, in partnership with the Wyoming Retail Association, have launched Swipe Left on Theft: a full-force, statewide initiative to protect businesses, support law enforcement, and bring down the hammer on organized retail crime.
A Unified Front to Defend Business
Swipe Left on Theft is more than a legislative campaign, it's a movement. Backed by business leaders, chambers, retailers, legislators, and community partners, this initiative is about reclaiming control and protecting the economic engines of our towns and state.

Our goals are clear:
-
Raise public awareness about the serious impact of organized retail crime (ORC)
-
Support stronger law enforcement efforts and legal tools
-
Strengthen business security and prevention strategies
-
Create a unified voice that deters criminal behavior and backs Main Street
Legislative Action Underway
While Wyoming prides itself on strong communities and personal responsibility, our business owners are sounding the alarm. Increasingly sophisticated retail theft rings and repeat offenders are exploiting legal loopholes, crossing county lines, and stripping retailers of the ability to operate safely and profitably. This ins't just petty theft. It's organized, deliberate, and damaging.

Back in August your Wyoming Chamber stood with the Wyoming Retail Association at the Wyoming Joint Judiciary Committee meeting to demand real change. And the committee listened––voting to draft three new bills that send a clear message: Wyoming protects its businesses.

These proposed bills would:
-
Increase penalties for misdemeanor theft
-
Lower the dollar threshold for felony charges
-
Reduce the number of offenses required to charge repeat offenders with a felony
-
Add penalties for criminals who commit theft across county lines

These are targeted solutions aimed at shutting down organized theft and restroing safety and security to Wyoming's retail sector. We applaud the efforts of the Joint Judiciary Committee and their commitment to stopping organized retail theft and protecting Wyoming's commerce.
