Our Work / Major Initiative

The Digital Drive

Building an Innovative Wyoming, Powered by AI

Wyoming is perfectly positioned to lead the next generation of advancement in technology and artificial intelligence. What we need is a plan to harness new technology before the opportunity passes us by. The Digital Drive: AI & Innovation is a statewide call to embrace artificial intelligence and emerging technologies so that businesses can compete, workers can thrive, and Wyoming can lead in an AI-driven global economy.

The Need for Smart AI Policy

At the Wyoming Chamber, we believe in the power of business to fuel innovation, strengthen communities, and shape the future. But even the strongest industries risk falling behind without the right tools. Right now, the rise of AI is a turning point for every state, every industry, and every worker. Wyoming must be ready.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has called AI both a breakthrough opportunity and a challenge requiring smart policy. The nation needs a coordinated, unified approach to AI policy, not a patchwork of conflicting state regulations. Without consistency, businesses operating across state lines risk navigating a confusing maze of rules, slowing innovation, and stalling economic growth. If Wyoming acts now, we can turn AI into an engine of economic diversification, rural opportunity, and stronger businesses—while helping shape a national framework that works for everyone.

The Workforce Challenge

The reality is simple: jobs are changing. Some tasks will become automated, others will be redefined, and entirely new roles will emerge. Wyoming's workers deserve the chance to not just adapt, but to lead.

That's why this initiative is focused on two critical elements:

1. Re-skilling Today's Workforce: Providing rapid, affordable training to help workers stay competitive as technology reshapes industries.

2. Skilling Tomorrow's Workforce: Preparing students with the digital and critical thinking skills they need to succeed in an AI-powered economy.

From ranchers leveraging precision ag tech to small businesses adopting AI tools, Wyoming's future workforce will look different, but it can also be stronger than ever.

Re-skilling is critical, but it only works if we have a workforce to re-skill. Wyoming faces a two-fold challenge:

1. Youth Out-Migration: Our young workers are leaving the state at an exponential rate, seeking opportunities elsewhere.

2. National Workforce Decline: Across the U.S., population growth is slowing, and the workforce is shrinking, creating a nationwide labor shortage.

This is the reality every business, Wyoming and nationwide, will face in the coming years. Companies will need to operate more efficiently and creatively with fewer workers. That's where AI and technology come in. By automating routine tasks, streamlining processes, and augmenting human capability, businesses can remain competitive even as the workforce tightens.

How We Build Momentum

Your Wyoming Chamber is standing up for smart AI adoption and workforce readiness guided by four principles:

1. Innovation so businesses can use AI to grow, diversify, and compete.

2. Education to ensure workers and students have the skills to succeed.

3. Equity so rural and urban communities alike benefit from technology.

4. Security to balance growth with privacy, ethics, and trust.

These aren't partisan goals, they're practical ones. And they're essential for Wyoming's future competitiveness and prosperity.

The Time to Act

AI isn’t coming, it’s already here. The question isn’t whether Wyoming will use it, but whether we’ll lead with it. By building smarter policies, addressing the workforce gap, re-skilling workers, and preparing the next generation, Wyoming can stand ready to compete on a national and global stage.

Join us: Let’s build a smarter Wyoming—faster, stronger, and together.
