ATTENTION: The Supreme Court Has Revived CTA Requirements!

Last week, the Supreme Court reinstated the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), reviving the original requirement for millions of small businesses to disclose ownership information to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). This means businesses must have already complied with the original January 1 filing deadline.

While the law is aimed at combating money laundering and other financial crimes, it places significant burdens on small businesses. Critics, including chambers of commerce nationwide, argue this requirement is costly, invasive, and unnecessarily onerous.

At this time, no additional guidance has been issued by FinCEN or the courts regarding next steps for businesses that did not file. We understand the frustration and uncertainty this creates and will continue to advocate for businesses while keeping you informed of any developments.

Stay tuned for updates as we work with the U.S. chamber and chambers across the nation to push back against this sweeping regulation.
