House Passes FY26 National Defense Authorization Act

ree

The House has passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a $848 billion policy blueprint shaping defense priorities for the year ahead. While the bill doesn’t spend money directly, it sets the stage for future contracts, procurement, and business opportunities in defense-related industries.

Key business-related highlights:

  • Procurement Reform: The bill includes measures to streamline defense acquisitions, helping get new technology and equipment into production faster, which benefits firms across aerospace, manufacturing, and advanced technology sectors.

  • Updating Outdated Laws: Lawmakers voted to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Iraq war authorizations, removing outdated mandates and allowing a clearer focus on today’s strategic challenges.

  • Other Policy Changes: The legislation also includes provisions on a range of service and equipment policies, reflecting diverse priorities among members. Read full bill here.

The bill now moves to reconciliation with the Senate, which is considering a version with a $32 billion higher top-line, potentially supporting shipbuilding, F-35 production, and other defense-related industries.

The Wyoming Chamber of Commerce applauds the House for advancing the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act. This important legislation not only strengthens our national security but also Wyoming’s economy. As the bill moves through the legislative process, we encourage all members of Congress to focus on policies that give our service members the tools and certainty they need, while making it easier for American and Wyoming businesses to partner and contribute to our national defense.
