Powering Wyoming’s Future: Ready Wyoming Transmission Project

Wyoming’s energy future just got a powerful boost.

A 260-mile transmission expansion spanning five counties and two states is officially complete, marking a major milestone for energy reliability, economic growth, and long-term price stability across the region. The $350 million Ready Wyoming transmission project, completed on December 29, represents the largest electrical infrastructure investment in Black Hills Energy’s history, and a bold vote of confidence in Wyoming.

The transmission line runs through Converse, Laramie, Goshen, and Platte counties in Wyoming, as well as Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The expansion includes one new substation and six replacement or expanded substations, modernizing critical infrastructure across the region. In doing so, it strengthens connectivity between Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska, enhancing grid resiliency and unlocking greater access to low-cost power generation.

Just as importantly, the project positions Wyoming to continue leading in both traditional and renewable energy development, ensuring flexibility, reliability, and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

WY It Matters

Wyoming has long been an energy leader, and projects like Ready Wyoming ensure the state remains one. By increasing transmission capacity and allowing energy to flow more freely in both directions, the project enhances system resiliency and supports new customer growth. It also lays the groundwork for future energy projects, whether that’s renewable development, industrial expansion, or serving new communities and businesses.

The economic impact of the Ready Wyoming project is significant and long-lasting:

  • 1,367 estimated construction jobs supported during development

  • Approximately $570,000 annually added to Wyoming’s economy

  • Improved reliability and access to low-cost power, a key driver for business attraction and expansion

Reliable, affordable energy is foundational to economic development. When businesses know they can count on resilient infrastructure and predictable energy costs, they’re more likely to invest, expand, and create jobs right here in Wyoming.
