Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility Joins National Historic Landmark Registry

ree

Wyoming made history again this week as the Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility, located just north of Cheyenne, was officially inducted into the National Historic Landmark registry. Quebec 01 is the only accessible Peacekeeper Missile Alert Facility in the world, offering a rare and powerful glimpse into America’s Cold War legacy and the men and women who stood watch during one of the most tense chapters in global history.

Since opening to the public in 2018, the site has given visitors the opportunity to step into the daily lives of missileers and support crews, while also exploring the technology, strategy, and discipline that defined the deterrence mission. Its designation as a National

Historic Landmark cements its place not just in Wyoming’s story, but in the nation’s.

Leaders at the dedication, including Senator Boner, Col. Terrance Holmes, and Visit Cheyenne’s Domenic Bravo, highlighted how Quebec 01 is more than a military relic; it’s a symbol of peace through strength, honoring those who served in silence so others could live in safety.

WY It Matters

For Wyoming’s business community, Quebec 01’s new national recognition is more than a ceremonial honor, it’s an economic driver. As the only site of its kind in the world, Quebec 01 gives Cheyenne and the state a unique tourism asset that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Heritage tourism is already a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S., and this designation will attract visitors from across the country and around the world.

That means more hotel stays, more local dining, more downtown shopping, and more visibility for Wyoming on the national stage. By linking history, military heritage, and tourism, Quebec 01 strengthens the state’s brand as a place where the past, present, and future intersect. For businesses, it’s a reminder that preserving Wyoming’s history isn’t just about honoring the past, it’s about creating opportunities for growth today.
