Uranium Energy Corp. (UEC) has announced plans to develop a cutting-edge uranium refining and conversion facility in the United States, a move that could reshape America’s nuclear fuel supply chain. The facility would convert uranium concentrate into uranium hexafluoride (UF₆), the critical feedstock needed for commercial reactors, advanced micro-reactors, and naval propulsion systems.
Wyoming is being considered as a potential home for the facility, joining other states like Texas in the selection process. UEC’s goal is to create a vertically integrated U.S. uranium operation, strengthening domestic production and reducing reliance on foreign sources.
WY It Matters: For Wyoming, this could mean high-skilled jobs, economic growth, and a central role in the domestic nuclear energy industry. Nationally, the facility would enhance energy security, support low-carbon power generation, and reinforce U.S. nuclear capabilities for both commercial and defense applications.
